Adam and Dog [2]
For descriptions and credits go to my previous posts which you can find here.
The film:
I still love it as much as I did before seeing it, haha, but in different ways. This is what I said on it before:
It also reminds me of The Fox and the Hound because the direct purpose of the visuals are to endear and amaze. It endears in that it's the start of something, everything is new to us and to the characters and they're playful about their exploration. It would be great to be taken on a journey by Adam and Dog, don't you think?
Well yes it was! The visuals did what I expected, but it wasn't a journey like I thought it would be. While Adam was living his story, we follow dog on his search for a friend. And as Adam ultimately get banished from paradise, dog still follows him. The loyalty of a dog.
Still this is great for people who aren't dog people or aren't of the Christian faith (I am neither). They tell a story of the innocence of a dog and his immediate trust in man. They did a great job of letting us empathize with Dog, and I kind of like that they included Adam and Eve's banishment, it gives Dog the opportunity to show how much heart he has.
Even though I haven't yet reviewed Paperman, I've already seen it, and I think Adam and Dog should be the winner of the Oscar of animated short story. I felt the most connected to the characters in their story and I love the cinematography and style of this the best too. Of the entries that I've seen, I feel this is the most special, but we'll just have to wait and see which one wins!
Living Lines Library has put some of the background artwork of Adam and Dog online, so if you're interested in that sort of thing go here!
